Staying Power: WWF on the ground in Ujung Kulon

Night is falling on this remote corner of the earth.
From the leaden sky, one or two drops of water fall hesitantly. Then, gathering momentum, a few more. Before long, a steady rain is pummeling the forest canopy and the sea, and wisps of mist lie entangled in the treetops. Apart from the intensive thudding of the rain and the occasional shrill cries of birds, nothing is to be heard.

Nothing uncommon in the dense jungle of Ujung Kulon National Park, last haven for the endangered javan rhino in Indonesia. Tucked away on the western coast of the island of Java, the Park is the stage for a conservation struggle that has been ongoing for almost a century.
To ensure a brighter tomorrow for both the critically endangered rhino and the people that depend on functional ecosystems, WWF is stepping up its longstanding efforts in the region.
